It is extremely important that we make the most of our time here at Northwestern. One of the best ways to do this is to get involved in the broader Northwestern Community. This will help you to diversify yourself, your friends, and your experiences. There are a variety of ways in which you can accomplish this. You may join a musical group, audition for a production, join an athletic team whether varsity, club, or intramural, or become a part of student government.
Below I have compiled a great deal of information that should provide you with some answers to your questions regarding ASG and other concerns to address to specific members of the Northwestern community. ASG or the Associated Student Government, serves as the governing body over all student group organizations at Northwestern University. As the ASG Senator for FMO, I serve as a member of both FMO and ASG. Therefore, if you have any further questions that are not addressed below about how to contact a student group or address your concerns about student life at Northwestern, I can help. Please feel free to contact me.
Associated Student Government
(ASG)
ASG has eight standing committees. The Executive Committee and Student Activities Finance Board are elected; all other committees are appointed. Committees are the place where the most of the work in ASG is done, and Senators as well as non-Senators are invited to participate. Committees meet separately from the general Senate.
Every Wednesday, the ASG Senate meets in the Northwestern Room in Norris at 7pm to discuss that week's legislation and other business. All are welcome to come and participate.
The Academic Committee
Academic Vice President: Anna Xu
E-mail: annaxu2007@u.northwestern.edu
The ASG Academic Committee was established to address those issues pertaining to the academic interests of the student body. This includes a plethora of different topics, such as student involvement in the hiring of faculty, the CAESAR registration system, class policies and more. The Academic Committee is well known for the amount of research and background involved in the projects we handle. One of the benefits of being a part of the Academic is that is exposes students to the administrative aspect of life here at Northwestern University.
The Student Services Committee
Student Services Vice President: Nate West
E-mail: nwest@northwestern.edu
The Student Services Committee's role is to lobby for the creation and expansion of non-Academic services to improve the quality of undergraduate life at Northwestern. Committee members investigate the problems or inadequacies that they find on campus and seek to correct them through legislation or other means. In the past, the Student Services Committee has worked to improve food services, campus information systems, handicap accessibility, campus safety, health services, library services, shuttle services, housing, and Norris.
The External Relations Committee
External Relations Chair: Kate Pascale
E-mail: k-pascale@northwestern.edu

The committee's top priority is to serve students' interests by building relationships with Evanston residents, business owners and local lawmakers. Currently, the committee is working on several projects, including crosswalk improvements, emergency phones at transit stops and off-campus student/resident relations.
The Rules Committee
Rules Chair: Jack Eichorst
E-mail: j-eichorst@northwestern.edu

The Campus Public Relations Committee
Campus Public Relations Chair: Lauren Hargens
E-mail: laurenhargens2007@u.northwestern.edu
The Campus Public Relations Committee is in charge of ASG advertising, student group ads, and materials aimed at promoting both ASG and ASG-recognized student groups. The committee also writes press releases about ASG projects and initiatives and gathers input from the student body. Another responsibility of the committee is to publicize what ASG has accomplished and what ASG is working on to the Northwestern Community and the general public. The CPRC also works to help student groups generate publicity for their programming and to reach out to student groups by recognizing student problems that may be remedied by ASG.
The Technology Committee
Technology Director: Kyle Jacobson
E-mail: kyle-jacobson@northwestern.edu
ASG's newest standing committee, the Technology Committee, is in charge of updating the ASG website and handling other technology-related issues as they arise, such as maintaining all the web services, as well as serving as a link between ASG and NU Information Technology.
The Executive Committee
Executive Vice President: Matt Bogusz

The committee meets regularly to review petitions for new student groups and develop new programs to proactively meet student group needs. Each quarter, committee members are expected to meet and communicate regularly with all of his/her groups and attend as many of their group's events as possible. In addition, the Executive Committee is the main lobbying body for student group concerns.
