Voice and Vision Literary Magazine
Voice & Vision, a quarterly literary magazine, serves as the vehicle through which students of color (vibrant with color) at Northwestern University can express themselves artistically through poetry, prose, photography, paintings and drawings. It provides an outlet for unpublished artists to convey the power, beauty and struggles of our people. The magazine seeks to give voice to a silenced people in order to create a new vision and path for students on our campus.
In the 1970s, a group of Northwestern University students created a literary magazine, titled New Sense, which catered specifically to the Black community on campus. The magazine featured the art and literary work of Northwestern’s African American students. Unfortunately since then, the magazine has faded out of existence. However, the magazine has been revitalized for the 2006-2007 school year and beyond—under a new name and a fresh objective, Voice & Vision.
The magazine connects students through artistic expression. Our goal is to not only entertain readers through the work presented in the publication, but our main objective is to make our readers feel at home in a community where there is a universal need to be heard and most importantly understood.
